BARCELONA’S GAYXAMPLE
In the 1980's, Barcelona strove to promote the rights and raise the visibility of the city’s LGTB community. This was not an easy task but, gradually, Barcelona has gone on to become a leading national and international destination for the community, with the organization and promotion of events such as Pride Barcelona and the Circuit which, every year, attract crowds that exemplify the collective’s equality of rights.
The area known as the Gayxample lies between Calle Aragó and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes at the top and bottom, with Calle Balmes and Calle Comte d'Urgell at either end Throughout the neighbourhood, there is a huge variety of stores, bars, pubs, nightclubs and restaurants catering for the LGTBIQ+ community.
